Useful commands I use with heroku toolbelt

This blog is built in ruby and deployed using heroku. The database of choice for heroku is postgres so using the heroku tool belt and the command line has become vital to me. Here is a list of useful commands and what they do.

'\dt'

This is used to show a list of tables in the current database.

'\h'

This displays a list of help options.

'\i input.sql'

This reads a sql query from a file. This is specially useful when dumping mysql files from phpmyadmin or a database admin program like navicat.

'\l'

Shows a list of all databases.

We can of course write and run our standard queries like select, update, insert and delete.
